Patriot John Henson was born in Albemarle County, Virginia in
1765. He enlisted in the military in 1778 at the age of 13, serving
first in the Virginia Infantry under Captain Evan Shelby and Colonel
Hammond for two months before being discharged. Henson moved in North
Carolina in 1781 and re-enlisted m serving about a year under Captain
McHaney and Colonel Cuningham. After several years he moved to Kentucky
where he married Jane Goodbread in 1787. After 18 years, the couple
moved to Indiana and eventually moved to Wayne County, Illinois around
1809. It was there John Henson died in 1835 and was laid to rest in the
Henson Cemetery. Known children of John and Jane were: Rachael who
married John Lewis; Reuben, who married Lucinda Sinclair; and John and
Jessie.
